Holding Space for Your Transformation
Welcome to Gray Dove Therapy, I am glad you are here. I am Shelby, a Licensed Professional Counselor and am certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and individuals. I specialize in working with relational issues and helping clients strengthen emotional bonds within intimate/romantic relationships, familial relationships, friendships, and more. I address all of these topics within both individual and couples’ counseling.
The quality of our bonds with others is a significant contributor to each of our abilities to access, identify, and regulate our own emotions. This in turn impacts both how we manage difficulties and overcome obstacles in life, as well as how we celebrate the joys of life. In our work together, you can expect to regularly address the role of emotion and relationships in whatever is bringing you in for therapy. For some clients, these are uncomfortable or even scary topics- rest assured, my goal is to come alongside you in this journey at the pace that feels right to you. If you are looking to strengthen or repair an existing relationship, have a history of unsatisfactory of conflictual relationships, are experiencing a breakup or divorce, are experiencing anxiety around relationships, or are looking to process your experience with dating or friendships, we may be a great fit!
Additionally, I have experience and enjoy working with those looking to explore varying aspects of their identity, who feel disconnected from their own emotions or parts of themselves, or who may struggle with maintaining a positive self-concept. In my approach to therapy, this is all relational counseling. Part of holistic mental health is exploring and promoting a healthy relationship with each part of our self and aspect of our identity. For those who are interested, I also offer spiritual counseling from a Christian perspective, including exploring spiritual identity/beliefs and addressing church hurt and religious trauma.
I am committed to ongoing training and continuing education around helping all people feel safe in our counseling session, including people of all gender identities, sexual orientations, races, ages, religions, socioeconomic statuses, or other statuses. Finding a therapist who is a good fit can be difficult, and that difficulty can be compounded for those who frequently experience discrimination in our society. I welcome client feedback in helping me create a safe space for all.
Contact me for a free 15 minute phone consultation to see if we might be a good fit.
